N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) is a precursor to L-glutathione, one of our most important antioxidants needed for boosting cell immunity and maintaining effectiveness of our T-cells.  As glutathiones decrease with age, it is beneficial to supplement with NAC to boost availability of glutathiones.  NAC has been used for decades to loosen thick mucus in the lungs and boost immune functions.
